Why after I washed my clothes (by the top-loading washing machine), my clothes smelled terrible?

Did you put the wash in the dryer right away after the load was done? If you let it sit in there for awhile, it'll start smelling. If that's not the case, it's possible that the water that is piped into the washing machine is bad.
