Home insurance coverage while window was broken by attempted burglary?

This morning while I was in the house a burglar broke the living room window, normally there is no one at home at that time but I'm off today. I reported to the police and my landlord which is getting a new window. The problem is that it'll take a couple of days and while I wait the window is still broken (with only a carton covering it) and I'm worried that the burglar might come while I'm at work and steal my stuff. What would happened then? Will I be cover with my contents insurance if that happens? or does the landlord have to secure the window straight away (if that's possible?) Many thanks.
